The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Magnolia woman Thursday on multiple charges related to stealing identifying information and opening credit card accounts. Assistant District Attorney Rob Freyer said 24-year-old Tamara Marie Luthe was arrested on a felony warrant in Conroe Thursday for first-degree felony Possession of over 50 items or more of Identifying Information and third-degree felony and Tampering with Physical Evidence after appearing in the 221st District Court and returning to her vehicle. Detectives with the Magnolia Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in May at the Magnolia home Luthe shared with 34-year-old John Morse Henning and found a large burn pile of letters, bank receipts, account information, medical records, social security numbers and other items used to steal people’s identities, Freyer said. Henning was arrested on May 10 and faces fraud use and possession of identifying information of the elderly. Investigators also have evidence the pair were stealing mail from mostly rural mailboxes that were further from houses and using that information to open credit accounts. Victims contacted law enforcement after receiving credit cards in the mail they had not requested. Henning was already on federal parole after serving time for “skimming,” which Freyer says is a crime similar to the current charges, but involves enlisting waiters, bartenders, and others to get customers’ credit card numbers so the cards can be cloned. Freyer said investigators believe Luthe and Henning may have had victims in the Tomball, Magnolia, and Montgomery areas who have not filed police reports and they are encouraged to contact Shannon Spencer at 281-259-6417. Freyer said Spencer has done an “outstanding job” in this case. Officials are saying the best way to prevent becoming a victim is to not leave mail in the box and to mail items at the post office because Freyer says, “These people know no bounds when it comes to ripping off good people.” He also suggests getting a Post Office Box. The investigation will also spread into Harris and Grimes Counties and more charges may be added. Luthe is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $300,000 in bonds. Henning is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $25,000 bond and a Federal detainer.

WILLIS POWERLINE WORKER ELECTROCUTED
Just before 5 p.m. MCHD and North Montgomery County Fire Department were dispatched to electrocution on Woodland Lake at Rogers Road. Reports were that the lineman was still in a cherry picker and was unconscious and in cardiac arrest. When EMS arrived they found a male in his fifties who was unconscious but breathing. He had severe second and third-degree burns to his upper torso. According to officials, he was working on a line that had 7200 volts running through it when his arm somehow came in contact with the live wire just above his protective glove. The male then fell into the power line. A second crew member also suffered minor injuries. The worker who has not yet been identified was employed by North Houston Pole Company and were working on new lines for Sam Houston Electric Co-op.

He was transported in critical condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston due to his burns. Due to weather conditions immediately following the incident, PHI Air Medical or Life Flight was able to respond to the scene.

Barbara Horn was at home in the 29600 block of Brookchase, in Spring. She was lying in her bed Monday afternoon as the storms moved into Montgomery County. She said something told her she needs to get up and out of the bedroom. With winds howling outside she walked into the hallway just as the top of the neighbor’s sixty-foot pine tree crashed through her room landing right next to her bed. Horn was uninjured but the damage to the roof was extensive. In addition, half of the electrical wiring was ripped from the home and both her satellite dishes were destroyed. South Montgomery County Fire Department responded to the scene to secure the utilities.

WEATHER HITS TARKINGTON AREA
Storms moved quickly through Liberty County Monday evening. As it crossed FM 770 and along FM 2518 it left a path of damage that continued through the Tarkington area. Many homes suffered some damage. Trees were uprooted and power lines dangled across the roadways in the area. With Tarkington Fire Department battling a house fire on CR 306 crews from other areas moved in to help. On County Road 2212 Hardin Fire Department stood by waiting on line crews as power lines fell under the weight of trees which littered the road.

In the Tarkington Mobile Home Park on FM 2518, Jim Booth was in his home when baseball size hail started hitting the walls. He and his daughter stood in the kitchen, dinner was being prepared. Booth’s wife was in the living room sitting at the computer desk when a huge oak tree uprooted and fell through the living room. Two major limbs landed on each side of the chair Booth’s wife was sitting in. She and Booth’s daughter suffered minor injuries. All were removed by Tarkington Fire Fighters and Liberty County EMs. His wife and daughter were transported to Kingwood Hospital in stable condition.

Booth, who had just filled the cabinets and freezer with groceries on the first of the month wondered what he was going to do. The freezer was destroyed and the food in it. The power cannot be turned back on and the home is now not livable. An insurance agent told Booth awhile back that a person could not insure a mobile home if they were renting. Booth has no insurance of family to stay with.

At 8 pm the American Red Cross was called but a return call still has not come through.

Booth was able to save his two dogs but was not able to locate his three cats. Just before 9 pm all three came out of hiding and were uninjured.

SH 242 MULCH FIRE
Just after midnight, Monday Needham FIrefighters responded to multiple 911 calls in reference to a mulch fire at the Texas Timber Resources Mulch operation at SH 242 and the San Jacinto River. They arrived on the scene to find on large pile reported to be about 2-stories high with heavy fire. A deck gun was used immediately to knock some of the fire down. Additional trucks from Caney Creek, Needham, and South Montgomery County were requested. A ladder truck was set up on one side of the fire and water supply was established with multiple tankers. This is not the first fire at the location. Over the years fires have broken out several times. Mulch that is piled too deeply, more than a few inches, can build up heat and spontaneously catch fire. Factors such as below-average rainfall, dry conditions, warm temperatures, and high winds increase the risk of mulch fires. Years ago multiple departments spent full days fighting the blazes. However, the owner stepped up and purchased a tank truck, and if a small fire erupts they control it themselves. In addition, full crews are available if a fire does break out. As units fought the blaze this morning the owner called in heavy equipment operators and within 30-minutes workers were on the pile with heavy equipment breaking the piles and rolling it. Within 90-minutes the blaze was declared under control. Just like the large pile of mulch overnight a homeowner’s bedding can catch fire also in hot and dry conditions. Mulch and wood chips are wood products that are continually decomposing, generating high temperatures. Because of this, a large enough pile of mulch or chips can create sufficient heat to spontaneously combust. The location of mulch and wood chip piles can likewise pose a hazard.

SPLENDORA HIT AND RUN
On Tuesday, August 11, 2020, a male and a female were traveling down Cypress Lane in the White Oak Subdivision at about 7:30 pm. For unknown reasons the driver went past the home and put the truck in reverse striking the truck and trailer that was parked along the side of the road and pushing it into the mailbox destroying it. The driver then fled the scene. Unfortunately, the owner went the following morning to Home Depot to purchase supplies to repair the mailbox. While he was in the store the trailer was stolen. Anyone with information about either incident please call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
