Once again it was Lawrenceville highlighting the prep scene in girls lacrosse as it won its fifth straight Mercer County Tournament and was among the best teams in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.
Sadly, the Big Red will not get the opportunity to play for a sixth county title.
Hun, Pennington, Peddie and Stuart all had solid seasons as Hun just kept getting better, Pennington is young and going to be a tough out in the future, Peddie steadily improved, and so did Stuart.
There were many talented players in the prep ranks, and here’s a look at the Trentonian 2024 All-Prep first team.
Player of the Year – Hayla Dora, Lawrenceville – Dora was so much more than a top-notch defender. She was the heart and soul of the Big Red. A true leader on and off the field and a player that led by example.
Offensive Player of the Year – Lexi Koch, Lawrenceville – The junior Koch has 72 goals and she is a dynamic player around the cage. She had 96 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers and is one of the most gifted players around.
Midfielder of the Year – Ava Olender, Hun – What a season Olender had for the Raiders with 69 goals, 31 assists, 94 draw controls and 45 ground balls. She is a player that can change the game in a heartbeat.
Defensive Player of the Year – Malia Zovich, Lawrenceville – One of the most important qualities in a goalie is consistency, and Zovich brought that every game for the Big Red. She had a stingy 7.83 goals against average.
Coach of the Year – Lindsay Mulhern, Lawrenceville – Mulhern stepped in this year and did a great job keeping the Big Red among the best prep teams in the region. Her calm demeanor and vast experience were a key to the team’s success.
Hailey Adamsky, Pennington – A very talented soccer player, Adamsky was equally impressive on the lacrosse field with 43 goals and 15 assists. She had 29 draw controls and was dangerous with the ball in her stick.
Olivia Kim, Hun – A very poised attack player, Kim tallied 57 goals and grabbed 27 ground balls for the Raiders. When Kim was around the cage it usually resulted in a goal.
Allison Lee, Stuart – A vibrant offensive player, Lee had 88 goals and 10 assists, and as a junior she has 254 career goals. She added 91 draw controls and Lee scooped up 45 ground balls.
Aspen Swanson, Hun – A solid player, Swanson found the back of the net 32 times and helped on another 25. She added 37 draw controls and had 18 caused turnovers.
Chloe Babich, Lawrenceville – In so many different ways Babich contributed to the success of the Big Red. She was great on the draw with 70. She added 36 goals and had 10 assists. Most times it was Babich being the catalyst for the Big Red attack.
Maddie Brogan, Lawrenceville – Brogan was a player that had a career season with a career high of 64 goals, and she added 14 assists. She was awesome down the stretch for Lawrenceville with 12 goals, including four in the county tournament final against Allentown.
Olivia Davis, Pennington – Davis was very instrumental to the success of the Red Hawks this spring as she scored 27 times and came up with 39 draw controls. Davis was involved in every aspect of the game for Pennington.
Lauren Lee, Stuart – What a pleasant surprise this freshman was to the Tartans this season. She tallied 21 goals and had 10 assists. Lee was a player that just continued to grow.
Anna Treese, Peddie – One of the best all-around players in the area, Treese has great field vision and is just a sophom*ore. She caged 55 goals and 23 assists to go along with 70 draw controls.
Grace Giblin, Peddie – This midfielder did just about everything for the Falcons with 45 goals and 24 assists along with 56 draw controls. She added 23 caused turnovers to aid the defense.
Megan Widlar, Lawrenceville – Just a sophom*ore, Widlar played on the Big Red defense with the poise and determination of a veteran. Never one to back down, she always rose to the occasion. She was a key to the transition game, as well.
